Definition
Mental health is the mental state of our mental well-being and defines the way how we cope with situations and manage feelings and thoughts. It includes our emotional, psychological and social well-being.
Mental health is not a constant state, it can change over time depending on personal experiences and development. It is important to seek for help if you are concerned about your mental health because treatments are available and helpful to cope and manage problems and difficulties.
Impacts and influences
Our mental health condition is essential for us to develop certain resilience against emotionally stressful life events, self-esteem, relationships and communication skills. Every person processes triggers differently and diverse factors including family, friends and personal events may impact mental health, affecting the way how mental wellbeing is shaped. Biological factors including genetics and family history impact the state and risk of developing mental disorders as well.
Relation between physical and mental health
Also, mental and physical health are closely linked to each other. They increase the risk of each other, often resulting in a vicious circle. For instance, individuals who suffer from mental disorders are more likely to develop chronic conditions because of stress and the resulting effects and vice versa.
